In recent years, the definition of environmentalism has undergone radical change that deviates from the Roosevelt template of conservation in concert with development. In some quarters, it is enough to oppose growth without offering or recommending plausible alternatives.  Many activists and certain media resort to emotional arguments that have no basis in fact, knowing full well that perception becomes reality.

Such a mindset is not beneficial to South Carolina or the United States.  Public policy on environmental matters cannot be an either/or proposition and decisions must not be based upon emotional arguments.

With that in mind, we recognize that policy decisions and general practices must include a shared commitment to quality air, water and land use and that related decisions must be made based on reasonable, proven science.

Such a commitment is the only way to achieve sound conservation.
