"Conservation means development as much as it does protection. I recognize the right and duty of this generation to develop and use the natural resources of our land; but I do not recognize the right to waste them, or to rob, by wasteful use, the generations that come after us."

President Theodore Roosevelt, August 31, 1910

Citizens for Sound Conservation is committed to leaving South Carolina's future generations a vibrant economy and improved quality of life. This can only be accomplished through a shared commitment to economic development in conjunction with sound and responsible conservation of our natural resources - a philosophy the great conservationist Theodore Roosevelt espoused.

Our mission is to help ensure this occurs by educating South Carolina's policy makers, the media and its citizens on the value of both conservation and economic growth. With today's technology, it is possible to improve both our environmental and economic quality of life. Choosing one against the other is not necessary; indeed, it is self defeating.

With Roosevelt's words as our guide, Citizens for Sound Conservation was formed as a pro-environment, pro-growth organization committed to sound conservation policies that not only protect the environment but enhance the potential for continued economic prosperity.
